SHIP'S HISTORY

The first Dorsetshire was built in 1694. A 70 gun sailing ship. She was rebuilt in 1712 and served for another 37 years.

She was decommissioned in 1749. Eight years later another 70 gun sailing ship was built and named Dorsetshire, after sixteen years of constant service the second Dorsetshire was also decommissioned.

For a long time after there was no Dorsetshire.

In 1929 a County Class Cruiser was launched at Portsmouth Dockyard by the Countess of Shaftesbury.

This was the third and final H.M.S Dorsetshire to date.
